The purpose of this study is to inquire experimentally into the relations between the twist shrinkage of nylon yarn, the number of twists, denier, load, neutral diameter, and the adsorption of moisture. From the results, the following conclusions have been obtained :
(1) The twist shrinkage increases in proportion to the square of the number of twists and the deneir. But it decreases with an increase in loadd and number of twists.
(2) For a higher percentage of relative humidity, the twist shrinkage increases when the load is zero, since the longitudiual swelling of nylon is far smaller than lateral swelling. But when the load increases, the twist shrinkage decreases with an increase in extension by the adsorption of moisture.
(3) Twist has no effect on the neutral diameter, but an increases in load reduces it. The smaller the number of twists, the larger the effect, and this tendency is heightened by a high relative humidity.
