Distribution of motile animals were investigated in a boulder shore at Gobo, middle Japan. In the vertical distribution of respective species, six patterns were recognized: the distribution was seen 1) from middle intertidal to sub tidal areas, 2) from middle to lower intertidal areas, 3) in the middle intertidal area, 4) in the lower intertidal area, 5) from lower intertidal to subtidal areas, and 6) in the subtidal area. The distributional difference was seen among species in relation to parts and size of a boulder. In some species, number of individuals found under a boulder tended to be correlated with the undersurface area of a boulder, while in other species a few individuals were counted per boulder, irrespective of the boulder size. Above all facts suggest that animals use the boulder shore differently among species.
