A minimal volume determination from dredge samples for benthic community study of subtidal mud flats in Korean waters

Different methods are investigated for a minimal volume determination from dredge samples of subtidal mud flats in the southern coast of Korea. The Molinier's point 20/2 and 20/1 in the classical species-volume curve and Sø;rensen similarity index-volume curve were studied for qualitative analysis, while the Kulczynski's similarity index-volume curve was used to determine a minimal volume in a quantitative study. The values obtained predict minimal volumes of approximately 65 dm<SUP>3</SUP> for qualitative studies and 75 dm<SUP>3</SUP> for quantitative analyses of benthic communities in question.
