Various natural disasters caused by multiple origins have hit and influenced several effects on Japanese Islands. The Isewan Typhoon hit and raised severe damage due to the flood tide on land subsided area, Nobi Plain in 1959. Flooding caused by liquefaction attacked Akita City, Noshiro City and Shariki Village after the Nihonkai-Chubu Earthquake in 1983. Many slope failures took place on the slopes of Aso volcanoes caused by a heavy rainfall on July 1990.Pyroclastic and debris flows occurred frequently caused by volcanic eruptions of Mt. Unzen and rainfalls since 1991. On the coasts of Okushiri Island, extraordinary high tsunami attacked and the fire broke out owing to the Off South-Western Hokkaido Earthquake in the summer of 1993.The prevention of various natural disasters can be effectively promoted by using the comprehensive hazard maps. Therefore, it is necessary for us to evaluate various natural disasters caused by multiple origins and to examine their influences as carefully as possible for the completion of the comprehensive hazard maps. The author described many case studies of severe damage caused by the natural disasters owing to multple origins and their influences. And finally, he tried to estasblish the method for making out the comprehensive hazard maps.
