Hereditary deficiency of Iactor XI was first reported by R.L. Rosenthal in 1953. This disease occurs mainly in people of Jewish ancestry. It is transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait and occurs with equal frequency in males and femaks.<BR>We have experienced one case of a tooth extraction in a hereditary factor XI defiiciency patient. This case was a 52-year-old female, and the factor XI activity examined by using PTA deficient plasma (DADE) was less than 1 %. Usually the clinical symptoms are mild, and in this case recently two teeth were extracted in a private office; the first bled for 2 days and the second bled for 7 days. We transfused fresh frozen plasma before tooth extraction and clotting after surgery was normal.
