This report describes the effect of latent heat on the temperature distribution around heat source in a line heating processing.<BR>Unsteady heat conduction analysis by the finite element method, which was shown in the previous report, is performed here and the results are in good agreement with the experimental results.<BR>Temperature distribution, peak temperature and cooling rate of the material are affected considerably by latent heat. When the heat input is small, latent heat may not be necessarily considered in calculation.<BR>In the estimation of peak temperature and amount of heat input by Adams' and Wells' approximate formulae, it is desirable to use the thermal constants at about 800°C.
