The sorption mechanism of water by rubber is shown from the thermodynamical treatment on the experimental results of Part II.The results of experiments are satisfied by the osmotic mechanism theory, if it is assumed that the saturated state of the immersed rubber in water is a balanced state between the osmotic pressure of the solution and the elastic modulus of the rubber. The μ between the water and the rubber is a very large value, hence, the energy which is required to contact or bond these both molecules is very large. The energy that needs to deform by swelling or osmotic pressure is negligibly small, as compared with these contact energy. And the heat of mixing (ΔH) is zero which is induced from temperature dependence of μ. From these results, it is concluded that the state of the water in the rubber is free water and the sorption mechanism of water by rubber obeys the osmotic theory as previous mentioned.
