Phosphorylase and hexokinase in the pollen of Pinus densiflora, Zea Mays and Cucurbita maxima were studied. (1) Phosphorylase activity was detected in all samples, and its optimum action was at pH 5.0, 37°C in the mature and germinating pollens of P. densiflora, and at 5.0, 30°C in the pollens of Z. Mays. (2) Phosphorylase activity in the pollen of P. densiflora increased during the germination on a sugarless-agar medium. (3) Hexokinase activity was detected in all samples, and optimum action of phosphorylating glucose and fructose was at pH 7.5, 37°C in each pollen. (4) During the germination of the pollen of P. densiflora on sugarless- and sucrose-agar media, hexokinase activity increased in either case, especially on the sucrose-agar medium. The pollen of Z. Mays and C. maxima increased in hexokinase activity during the germination on the sucrose-agar medium.
