With the advancement of penicillin industry problems of mutation have been studied, and it was also found that ultraviolet ray is an efficient means of producing mutations. By irra-diation of ultraviolet ray 34 mutants of Asp. sojae SAKAGUCHI et YAMADA were obtained and a preliminary study of the effects of ultraviolet in mycological and physiological aspects was described. I classified these mutants into 10 types. Mutants in general differed from the normal in the rate of growth, colony form, spore formation, pigment production, power of enzyme activities and other characteristics.
