Distribution studies of sorbicillin, penitrinic acid anb β-penitrin by counter current distribution extracting method utilizing test tubes were carried out. From the above results, after factionatoin of sample of the yellow pigments, powder state but not crystalline sorbi-cillin and penitrinic acid were obtained. By paper-chromatographic and -Beckman's spectrophotometric studies on the both pigments in case of Q176) and their precursor (in case of the pigmentless sultant) in the broth during culture stages were carried out, and it was recognized that the two pigments incre-ased parallel, either one pigment did not transform to the other, and the substances which were thought to be the precursors of the pigments could not be found in the broth of the pigmentless sultant. Amounts of sorbicillin and penitrinic acid Pro ced in the broth were estimated standard straight lines between concentration and optical density of the pigments. The amounts of sorbicillin and penitrinic acid produced in C-medium are 95.2 ϒ/cc and 77.2 ϒ/cc, in Stone-Farrell madium 44 ϒ/cc and 48 ϒ/cc respectively.
