In October 1991, the waste management and public cleansing law of Japan was amended, including the clause on separate collection of domestic solid wastes.<BR>It is forecasted that a greater burden will be imposed on the collection and haulage sector, since making effective use of resources in separated solid wastes is being promoted.<BR>Taking into account introduction of the recycling of natural resources and chargingfees waste collection, this study is carried out for the purposes of data arrangement and invesigation on the process of programme formulation for collection and haulage of domestic solid wastes, from the stage of motivation and realization of the necessity of such a plan to the stage of evaluation of alternatives.<BR>Ffirst, through an interview survey of local governments, the problems are summarized regarding collection and haulage systems within domestic solid waste management, and the objectives are classified for domestic solid waste collection and haulage plans. Secondly, Methods are discussed for determination and priotization of alternative solutions.<BR>In addition, a survey is conducted regarding related technology, such as waste discharge methods from skyscrapers, and haulage using pipelines.
