Interactions of New Microbial Products with Various Colloid Particles and Effects on Dispersion Stability

• The new microbial products; CF 2399 and CF 2403, were recently discovered in a culture broth of fungi. Interactions and dispersion activity of CF 2399 and CF 2403 were examined in the present study using some typical colloidal dispersion. Zeta potential, critical-flocculation concentration (c.f.c.), and volume of sedimentation were used to determine surface-active properties of CF 2399 and CF 2403 in aqueous dispersion. CF 2399 and CF 2403 caused surface charge on colloid particles to become more negative, so they should contribute to the colloidal dispersion stability due to their adsorption on the hydrophobic surface of colloid particles. Moreover, the dispersion activity of CF 2399 and CF 2403 was compared with that of typical commercial dispersants.<BR>It thus follows that CF 2399 and CF 2403 have high dispersion activity and should be useful as dispersants for industrial applications.
