Landslides are widely distributed over the Kobe group, the Tertiary system, and some of them at Nishihata are making slow sliding movement now. Results of studies on the characteristics of topography and land use classification at the agricultural sliding land in Nishihata Hata-cho Kita-ku Kobe-city, are as follows:1) It was found that the sliding surface slope, from 3° to 8°, was about 70% of the whole area, that the average slope was 13°. It was the gentle slope comparativery.2) We could divide the landslide into two large blocks but it was difficult to divide it into smaller. Topographically both blocks tend to move towards the valley line at the upside of Ozo-river.3) The agricultural land was 32.4% of the whole area. In it the paddy fields were 86.7%. It was paddygrowing area.4) There were many shelf fields and the great part of them were in use as the paddy fields.5) The average area was under 422m2 per block of a paddy field and it was very narrow.6) Thirty small-scale irrigation ponds were 3.7% of the whole area.7) Forests of needle-leaved trees and wide-leaved trees were 60% of the whole area and they function as the source of the river.8) Dispositions of the contour line on the topographical map were disorder. It was close again at the foot of the gentle slope.9) Clods of the landslides tend to move from the upside of the slope to the downside from the point of view of configuration.10) On the surface there were uneven patterns of transformations which were cliffs of collapses, crevices and collapses.11) In the past uneven patterns of transformations occurred frequently at structures on the ground in this area. The cultivated land have phenomena of sloping, sinking, rising, collapsing and moving. Traces of the landslides show up at the configuration on the surface. (Faculty of Agriculture, Kobe Univ.)
