The peak potential of lead in sulphuric acid by the square-wave polarography is shifted to negative potential as the concentration of sulphuric acid increases. As the result, in 15<I>M</I> H<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>4</SUB>, the wave of lead is not well-defined. In 10<I>M</I>H<SUB>2</SUB>SO<SUB>4</SUB>, however, in which the solubility of lead seemed to be about 5 × 10<SUP>-6</SUP><I>M</I>, the capacity current at the peak potential of lead - -0.88 V <I>vs</I>. Hg-pool - was so small that the wave of lead was well-defined even in its small concentration. The wave-height of lead was dependent upon the temperature, and above 20°C, it increased slowly in the course of time.<BR>By the use of the calibration curve obtained under a definite condition in which the concentration of sulphuric acid was 10<I>M</I>, and the time of deaeration after inserting the cell into the constant temperature bath of 40°C was 20 min, 0.026 ppm of lead in reagent grade sulphuric acid and 0.52 ppm of lead in technical sulphuric acid could be determined.
