A novel technique is proposed, which improves the resolution time of the nanosecond photon-counting fluorimeter of which principle of operation is based on the measurement of the temporal distribution of photoelectron pulses during the short duration of transient emission. By extracting the time information of the part of the leading edge from each arrival photoelectron pulse and by abandonning that of the plusewidth, the frequency bandwidth exceeding that of the photomultiplier tube is obtained. Moreover, the expansion of the dynamic range for the input light power is expected by the successive use of the proposed technique for overlapped pulse-pairs. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a system using a multichannel vernier chronotron is constructed. From the performance test, it is found that the resolution time of 0.6 nsec is easily attained for the time span of 28.8 nsec.
