Platinum dithizonate was investigated spectrophotometrically by using alumina chromatographic techniques. The platinum dithizonate showed absorption maxima at 490mμ and 720mμ. Beer's law was obeyed over a concentration range from 1μg to 20μg per 5m<I>l</I> in chloroform. The extraction of platinum as dithizonate into carbontetrachloride was studied for seeking adequate concentrations of stannous chloride, dithizone and acids, and for shaking periods for the extraction. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The effect of the stannous chloride concentrations was relatively large. As dithizone was reduced to colorless compound with an excess amount of stannous chloride by an elongated shaking, care must be taken in this respect. (2) Low hydrochloric acidity of the solution was preferred for the extraction, but a part of tin dithizonate was extracted in too low acidity. (3) Long periods of shaking with stannous chloride must be avoided because of the reduction of reagent. A most appropriate extraction was per formed from 50m<I>l</I> of 1<I>N</I> hydrochloric acid containing 1ml of 10% stannous chloride with 1 minute shaking. Chromatographic conditions were 0.7×5cm column of alumina of 100/325 mesh, 10% moisture content, and chloroform as an eluant.
