A dilution-type technique named the dilution parameter method with strontium carbonate as a diluent has been described for the quantitative X-ray fluorescence analysis of mainly heavy rare-earth oxide mixtures, which are in multicomponent systems of widely varying compositions. The final calculating equation included two terms of the direct standard comparison and the dilution parameter correction in the form of product.<BR>Although precision and accuracy vary widely to some extent depending on the concentration of analytical component, over-all the average coefficient of variation and error evaluated from the analysis of many synthetic samples in the concentration range 5 to 90% are about 3 and several %, respectively. If some improvements are carried out, it may be expected that the proposed method is recommended for the rare-earth analysis because of its simplicity and reasonable accuracy.
