A method for direct determination of small amounts of copper in tin dioxide has been studied. A large amounts of tin (IV) can be masked with oxalic acid and copper (II) is extracted into benzene containing dithizone. The excess of dithizone in the benzene layer is washed out with diluted solution of ammonium hydroxide. Copper is determined spectrophotometrically by measuring the absorbance of the extract at 550mμ. The precision of the method is 0.00059 CuO%.
