The content of Bi in sulfide ore is determined by two stage extraction with sodium diethyl-dithiocarbamate and carbon tetrachloride (Na-DDTC-CCl4).<BR>The ordinary method, which extracts Bi by Na-DDTC-CCl4 from a basic solution of sample containing NH4-citrate, EDTA and KCN, gives a large positive error owing to the co-existence of Fe3+ and Pb2+. But the extracted amount of Fe and Pb accompanying with Bi is so small that the second Na-DDTC-CCl4 extraction for the solution obtained by decomposition of the first extract with HNO3-H2SO4 gives an accurate result. Sodium sulfite is added to the sample solution together with other masking agents because it is effective for suppressing the influence of Fe3+.<BR>The relation of the absorbance at 366 mμ and the amount of Bi is linear within the range of 0.5 15 μg Bi/m<I>l</I> CCl4. Accurate results are obtained for 0.00<I>n</I>% Bi.
