Using a solid specimen, studies are made on the analysis of trace cerium in cast iron with the Shimadzu and A.R.L.X-ray Quantometer (V.X.Q.type).
A favorable working curve for cerium is obtained in the concentration range of 0.0020 to 0.0240 per cent, and it is found that the concentration of cerium from 0.0040 to 0.0050 per cent in cast iron is determinable with a coefficient of variation within 4-6 per cent for the integration time of ten minutes by the external standard monitor system.
As a solid specimen is used, it is easier to prepare the specimen by the present method than by other methods, such as the wet chemical analysis and the fluorescent X-ray analysis using powdered or liquid samples.
Therefore, this method is very effective in analysis for controlling and the time required for 1 specimen is about 25 minutes.
