The experiments were carried out using model nets of different construction. The effect of time, from the laying of the net till the start of pursing (waiting time), and that of the direction of current on the working depth were observed. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The bottom margin of the net achieved maximum working depth at the 4/10 or 5/10 stage (e=0.4-0.5) of the pursing operation. To sink the leadline to maximum depth, pursing should be started within a certain amount of time after setting the net. 2) The working depth of the leadline was found to be deepest when there was no current, and while under current, the leadline was deeper in a loose set than in a tight set. 3) The model nets which were constructed with webbing of small resistances, or made of heavy twine, and tightly hanged showed fairly good sinking performances under the current conditions.
