On the case when the large and small individuals of fish living in a shoal were brought together into a tank and they aggregated in a new homotypic shoal, does the shoaling keep long or separate? In this paper the author dealt with this problem in the young fish, Plolosus anguilaris. The results were obtained as follows: (1) Aggregation or separation is decided by the size-difference, Δ L, between large and small individuals (see Table 2). (2) Small individuals are responsible for separation. (3) Stability of aggregation or occurence of separation is variable accorging to the ratio in the number of large individuals to small ones. In general, small individuals are more numerous than large ones, aggregation keeps longer and it is more difficult for separation to occur (see Table 5 and 6).
