• The survey of the breeding season of the Japanese common scallop, Pecten (Patinopecten) yessoensis JAY, in Mutsu Bay was made and the following results were obtained: 1) From the histological observation of the seasonal changes of the gonads it was ascertained that the full grown ova and spermatozoa were present from February to June. The spawning was most active from April to May in Mutsu Bay. 2) The artificial fertilization was possible from March on. 3) The spermatozoa were observed in six individuals of one year old. This fact showed that the male was sexually active in the second year of the development. 4) Outlines of the spermatogenesis and the process of the growth of the ovum were described.
