The exposure of mitochondrial suspension to an ultraviolet light produced a lipid peroxide in mitochondria. The effective wave-length for producing the lipid peroxide was found to be in the range of 260 - 300 nm. Utilizing a mitochondria obtain from rat administrated 8-methoxypsoralen intraperitoneally for 2 weeks, the significant efficiency of wave-length was observed between 320 nm and 340 nm, besides an original range of 260 - 300 nm. These findings correlate closely with the known erythema spectrum in the presence of 8-methoxypsoralen.
