We have investigated about the effect of pentoxifylline on the circulatory behavior of the brain by the method of four electrodes impedance plethysmography. Intravenous administration of pentoxifyllines (200 mg) has caused a remarkable increase of the cerebral impedance amplitude which may reflect a pulsatile blood flow increase of the brain with an average increase of 140 per cents of the control. Besides, it has been reported that the clinical case of aortitis syndrome which manifested different cerebral impedance pattern between the right and the left sides with a narrowed lumen or stenosis of the left internal carotid artery. And then this difference in the amplitude of the cerebral impedance has been disappeared with increasing the reduced amplitude in the affected side by administration of pentoxifylline (200 mg I. V.). It may be, therefore, safely asserted that the effect of pentoxifylline upon deformability of the erythrocytes would induce the cerebral blood flow increase remarkably in specific way which is remained to be investigated further.
