In schistosomiasis japonica we can not always find the ova of the parasite. In acute cases it usually takes about one month to find eggs and in chronic cases the discharge of eggs is not regular. Many authors have studied the concentration methods for schistosome eggs, but these methods are complicated and expensive. It is very difficult to evaluate the therapeutic effects of medicine for schistosomiasis japonica, because several months after the treatment some patients discharge eggs. Many immunological studies such as the intradermal test, precipitin reaction, flocculation test and complemenc fixation test have been investigated with egg, cercaria and adult antigens. Okabe et al. (1954) reported that the precipitin reaction with adult antigen was positive for acute schistosomiasis with dilution as high as 1:6400, but in the chronic cases the reaction was lower than the acute cases, only with the dilution of 1:800. The authors have found that the precipitin reaction with the patient's urine was positive and disappeared after the treatment. It seems to be possible to evaluate the therapeutic effects of medicine for schistosomiasis.
