Serum transaminase levels and GOT/GPT ratios in 443 healthy persons (male 331, female 112) were investigated in terms of obesity. Obesity was expressed here in the ratio (%) of the body weight to the ideal body weight. While serum GOT levels were not related to obesity, serum GPT levels (y Karmen units) were correlated with obesity (x): y=0.293x-13.6 for men (r=0.42; p<0.001), y=0.133x-1.3 for women (r=0.33; p<0.01). Accordingly, GOT/GPT ratios (z) were inversely correlated with obesity: z=-0.016x+2.98 (r=-0.48; p<0.001) for men, z=-0.012x+2.83(r=-0.34; p<0.01) for women. With high GOT levels, GOT/GPT ratios in 3 patients withfatty liver were lower than the expected values from healthy subjects of similar obesity.
