• This experimental study was undertaken to explore the histological analysis of early thrombogenesis after aortic anastomosis. One hundred and fifty ab-dominal aortas of rats, measuring 1.2 to 1.5mm in diameter were transversely severed half way and vascular anastomosis was performed, using 10-0 monofila-ment nylon interrupted suture. After fixation with 2.5% buffered glutearaldehyde the specimens were analyzed at 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20 and 30 minutes after anas-tomosis under light-microscope. The following results were obtained. Thrombi formed in about half of the specimens 3 to 15 minutes after anastomosis. The thrombi reached maximum size at 7 minutes after anastomosis, then gradually decreased in size and completely disappeared at 30 minutes.
