The physical and mechanical properties of W-Ni alloys of 0.1-2.0% Ni prepared by the nickel activated sintering were studied to obtain an alloy having electrical conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient nearly close to that of pure tungsten. Several interesting results were obtained as follows.<BR>(1) The sintering of these alloys appreciably proceeds at temperature ranging from 1000°C to 1300°C.<BR>The density of alloys sintered at 1200°C is 18.5 to 18.8g/cm3 (density ratio 97% up).<BR>(2) Value of electrical conductivity of an alloy sintered at about 1200°C (about IACS 28%) is maximum and it decreases as sintering temperature increases.<BR>(3) The W-Ni alloy containing 2% Ni sintered at 1000°C has the higher hardness (Hv 550) than the swaged tungsten.<BR>These results were obtained by the measurements of magnetic properties and microhard-ness, and the X-ray diffraction method.
