Leakage rates of monoenergic neutrons from small slab and cylindrical systems with isotropic scattering and neutron source are accurately calculated by the collision probability method. The diffusion theory is then improved by adjusting the extrapolated distance used in the theory so as to be in agreement with the exact leakage rate. The characteristics of the extrapolated distance, peaking factors and the effect of different configurations of source distribution are discussed. Finally the equivalence between slab and cylindrical systems is derived.
