概要

• There are various therapeutic measures avai lable for malignant tumors, e.g., surgical removal. radiation therapy, chemotherapy, endocrinotherapy, and immunotherapy. Of these, surgical treatment is now unquestionably the most reliable one, and radiation therapy has also become effective enough to give results almost similar to those with the former. But, now when it is generally accepted that malignant tumors, once passed a certain definiteperiod of standing, should be considered as not a local but systemic disease some other systemic therapy should of course be given in combination with these two measures, since they are no more than a local treatment. Nowaday, chemotherapy aiming at the direct inhibition of malignant cells is the most suitable means for the general treatment of cancer, and is going to become the third major therapeutic measure against cancer, having made a considerable progress in recent years.
