A pure tone audiometry was attempted on 61 new-born infants under 33 days of age. Three responses to auditory stimuli, i.e. a temporary deep inspiration, a body startle and blinking, were simultaneously graphically recorded.At least one of three responses was recognized in all infants observed, the thresholds of three responses being dispersed from 40db to 90db above the audibule thresholds of normal adults. The frequency ratio of the positive response became higher as the intensity of the tone stimulation was increased. Among the above mentioned three responses, the change in the respiratory movement was observed most frequently.
