The Second Department of Surgery Mie University School of Medicine<BR>Nuclear DNA contents of cells can be determined with ease and accuracy by DNA flow cytometry. This method was expected as a measure to differentiate malignant tumors from benign ones, to determine prognosis of patients with malignant tumors, and to give guidlines for treatment of malignant tumors.<BR>We have tried the DNA flow cytometry on colorectal carcinomas and found that (1) DNA aneuploidy was associated with advanced stage of the disease, (2) the incidence of recurrence after apparently curative resection was significantly higher in aneuploid tumors, but (3) there was no corelation between DNA ploidy of tumor cells and survival of the patients.<BR>Clinical significance of DNA cytometry in colorectal carcinoma will be further discussed.
