Experimental renal hypertension was produced in the rabbit by a modified Goldblatts technic. The small arteries and arterioles in the brain and heart were morphologically estimated and “ratio of wall to diameter” of various sizes of vessels was calculated and plotted on a semilogarithmic chart. Thus a mean curve pattern of ratios of wall to diameter along the course of arterioles (arteriolar profile chart) was obtained. These patterns of ratios of “arteriolar profiles” were correlated to the levels of blood pressure. Hypertensive arteriolar reaction was featured by an increase in the ratios of wall to diameter in vessels of some 100μ. in diameter. This was, however, reversed by effective hypotensive therapy.Cerebral hemorrhage was seen only in the hypertensive non-treated animals. Possible relationship between arteriolar thickening and cerebral hemorrhage was postulated.
