Checking Bridge “Daido Ôhashi” of our own for actual use as a test trial a study was made about the fastening load which exerts upon behavior of delayed fracture of high strength bolts for bridges and the consequence of alternate stress which acts while vehicles are running and after the investigation the underwritten matters have been clearly discovered.(1) Just as per the date observed in experimental room, the delayed fracture of high strength bolt for a bridge for actual use is inclined to grow if the fastening load is bigger.(2) After the bolt is fastened the probability distribution of fracture conforms to Weibull distribution for about 10 months and it shows distribution similar to Weibulls regardless the amount of the fastening load. But, after about 10 months passing there appears Knick. And this Knick appears in an earlier stage of the fastening. load which is bigger and the fracture probability at the point is also high.(3) Under a meteorological condition of higher temperature and higher humidity the fracture is inclined to be more or less promoted. And furthermore this tendency is stronger at the part exposed to the direct rays of the sun.(4) The alternative stress which acts upon the bolt while vehicles are running is extremely small and since it is about less than 1/100 of fatigue limit of the bolt itself it can be said that the fracture does not depend on the alternative stress under the actual load.
