Because of the limited amount of 650 ton, the heating number was small and fully mastered operating method could not be achieved after all but, the synthetic results of 19 heats including preliminary test are as follows:(1) Total Fe 92.2% the reduced iron, HImet, 93.6% of metalizing rate, 6 to 30mm diameters and produced on the commercial base for future electric furnace could almost be melt smoothly in a UHP electric furnace.(2) As for temperature control of molten steel, it was confirmed that the temperature was balanced at the continuous HImet charging rate of about 55T/H and the input power of 35 MW.(3) During continuous charging ΔC consists of 0.25% ΔC reduced by dilution and 0.40 to 0.50% ΔC reduced by oxidation when opening C is 1.0%.(4) The productivity from power on to slag off was 38.0T/H. This is almost equal to that of UHP operation with only scrap.(5) The power consumption for the whole charging amount was 585kWH/T and it was more than that of all scrap operating by 85kWH/T. The main cause is supposed to be the energy consumption due to heat of melting of gangue mineral and not-reduced iron, and radiation during continuous HImet charging.(6) The melting yield of HImet is estimated 89.0% and 96.5% based on total Fe. This means that almost half amount of not-reduced Fe was reduced in the furnace.(7) The consumption of refractory and electrode was not clear because of few heating number of heat and the discontinuous operation.(8) The continuous charging apparatus operated smoothly without troubles. Material-supplying apparatus in fixed quantity which can be variable, is essential in this operation, as well as instant flow-rate meter and integrating meter.
