In order to ascertain the influence of diameter of tube upon erythrocyte sedimentation rate in domestic animals, the variation rate with the change of diameter was calculated. Diameter variation rate=A-B/5.0-2.1(mm) where, A=(ESR at the tube of 1.9mm diameter+ESR at the tube of 2.3mm diameter)×1/2 B=(ESR at the tube of 4.4mm diameter+ESR at the tube of 5.6mm diameter)×1/2 The results obtained are shown in Fig. 1. The diameter variation rate increased to maximum value and then decreased. The correlation between erythrocyte sedimentation types and diameter variation rate is shown in Fig. 2. The appearance of the maximum point was delayed by the sedimentation types from acceleration types to retardation types (Table 1). The change of the variation rate seems to be in close connection with the erythrocyte sedimentation types. Moreover, the variation ratio with the change of 1.0mm diameter were calculated. Diameter variation ratio=Diameter variation rate/ESR at the Westergren's tube×100(%) The results obtained are shown in Table 2 and Fig. 3. The sedimentation rate should be measured at the tube of exact diameter, because the influence of the diameter of tube upon the erythrocyte sedimentation in domestic animals seems to be fairly great.
