This study was conducted to insure whether or not Morea would produce any improvement in abnormal milk of middle lactation period that coagulated by 70% alcohol test and gave normal acidity under fresh condition soon after milking. The casein number (per cent casein N of total N) generally increased by the feeding of Morea and approached the normal value to a certain degree. The result seems to suggest that Morea may promote the ability of synthesizing calcium phosphocaseinate in mammary gland. The casein number does not seem to be recommended to use as a criterion for the detection of abnormal milk, because this was not always in accord with the sensitivity of milk to alcohol test. The calcium content was relatively normal, but the phosphorus content was markedly higher than the normal value. The content of bound-calcium (mg per g casein) in abnormal milk was about one and a half times as much as that in normal milk. On the other hand, the content of bound-phosphorus (mg per g casein) was about twice to thrice as much as the normal content. After feeding Morea for about three weeks, the salt balance between Ca and P, i. e., the figure for bound-Ca: P, approached the normal value to a certain extent and the sensitivity of milk to alcohol test varied from the strong to the weak positive.Accordingly, it may be presumed that the Morea administration is conceivably effective to some extent in leading the abnormal milk more stable to alcohol test, when Morea is fed to the cows producing abnormal milk for more than 20 days at least.
