On a Simple Method for the Induction of Pseudopregnancy in Rat

The experiments were undertaken to simplify the electrical method of inducing pseudopregnancy in rat. The author's method consists of giving electrical stimulation to cervix of the animals with bipolar copper electrodes when the vaginal smear is in nucleates cell stage (proestrus) and cornified cell stage (estrus) The results are summarized as follows:1. This method induces a greater percentage of pseudopregnancy in rats than the electrical methods reported by several investigators.2. The greatest frequency (100%) of pseudopregnancy occurs in animals which are stimulated with current of 16 volt or greater voltage, when they are in estrus.3. The average length of pseudopregnancy is 12.1 days with range of eight to seventeen days.4. The traumatization and histological examination of uterus are reported. A typical deciduoma reaction is obtained in uterus of pseudopregnant rat and histological aspects of decidual cells in the treated animals are similar to those obtained in normal pregnant animal.
