Behavior and influence of excess hypodermic grease in heavy hide and its degreasing procedures were already investigated and the results were reported in the previous papers. In the present experiments, the authors examined the influence of storage conditions of raw hides. Wet salted steer hides which had been over-heated or dried-up during storage, induced relatively high incidence of grease stains after they were manufactured into chrome leathers. However, fleshed&trimmed hides which removed fats from flesh side before salting, induced only a small number of grease stains even if they underwent over-heat or drying-up during the storage. Fat content of wet salted steer hides increased after storing them at relatively high temperature. It means that hypodermic fat melt itself and moved into their corium layer. Some of grease stains appeared on leathers are originated from above-mentioned phenomenon.
