In order to study the Gas metabolism at pulling work, two experimints with " Wagyu" cow (aged 10) were made by us. The first experiment was put into execution in early spring (atmospheric temp. 8-10°C in shade) and the second in early summer. (atmospheric temp. 23-24°C in shade). The work that was set to-the cow was to go and return back 100m distance 20 times pulling the sleigh on the flat road with total resistances of 65kg for her body weight 569kg at the ist experiment. and of 60 kg for her body weight 525kg at the 2nd experiment.Gases were collected by DOUGLAS bag method, immediately after her 10 times (go and return) pulling and also after 20 times pulling. The principal results obtained are as follows : From these results, not only the rate of increase of gas metabolism and heat production at work, comparing to the basal metabolism of " Wagyu ". but also those seasonal difference, except R.Q. will be found out. It seems to be able to undestand from these experiments that there is some relation between the rate of increasing of gas. metabolism and the respiratory numbers at work.
