In order to produce the iron cast product with high quality and lightweight, it needs to make the high-density green sand mold. In the present study, the prototype of molding machine with the acceleration pipe to generate large compacting force is developed. The fundamental characteristics for the green sand blowing and compacting are investigated by several experiments using the molding machine. From the experimental results, the followings become clear. The green sand through the acceleration pipe is accelerated according to decrease in blowing mass and increase of the air tank setting pressure. The high values of mold density are located near the pattern plate. Air pressure loss influences to acceleration of particle velocity in the acceleration pipe. The quantity of air flowing into cavity is restrained by increasing the nozzle angle and the distance between nozzle and flask. This phenomenon affects the in.creasing of mold strength. The void fraction of the green sand mold measured near the pattern plate is smaller than value of 0.35. These values show that the present molding method is effective to make the higher density of green sand mold compare with conventional molding processes.
