It is well known fact that the cylindrical metallic ring deforms like as a barrel because of the restriction on the friction between contact surfaces when the ring is subjected to axial compressive load. When the ring is subjected to internal fluid pressure under the condition keeping a constant axial load,it deforms greater in radial direction owing to the decreases of effective axial load by the increase of internal pressure and frictional force caused by the leakage of internal fluid. However,the coefficient of friction under these conditions is not always made clear. The experiment and FEM analysis were carried out to investigate the deformation of the ring and the pressure of internal fluid beginning to leak under the conditions. In the experiment,after the fixed axial compressive load was applied to the steel ring set between rigid plates,the fluid pressure was increased until the internal fluid began to leak. And the deformation of the ring was measured when the leakage had occurred. In FEM analysis,the deformation of the ring was simulated for the various values of frictional factor. The result that the value of frictional factor was about from 0.07 to 0.10 was obtained by the way of comparison with experimental results and FEM analysis.
