In order to prevent aluminium and AI-alloys from gaseous defects, it is essential that the melts have deen degassed as far as possible before pouring, and to perform the studies on method for decrease hydrogen in the melt. the measuring method for hydrogen wants to be established. In this thesis, the vacuum-solid extraction method, developed by Ransley et al., was studied. Then new vacuum-fusion extraction method and a method for Al-alloys containing volatile constituents were developed. Since these measuring methods are exellent in accuracy, it becomes possible to clarify the effects of humidity in atmosphere, addition of principal alloying elements and degassing treatments by some methods on hydrogen content of aluminium melt. Moreover a simple model of dehydrogenation (or hydrogen occlusion) was adovocated, in which hydrogen in aluminium melt was illustrated as a composit of dehydrogenation process governed by interface diffusion of hydrogen and hydrogen-occlusion process governed
