Nowadays, the number of patients with cardiac disease is getting higher and higher every year. In Japan, as of the last year, the number of patients who are using cardiac pacemaker is approaching 7,000. However, even in this serious situation, the clinical standards for cardiac pacemaker implantation for the suspected life threatening arrhythmia patient are not still settled clearly, and pacing method to control tachycardia is not acceptable enough. Therefore, it is required to establish a more reliable pacemaker implantation protocol and a high performance pacemaker. Under this background, this paper describes the basic consideration for cardiac pacing, and in particular, a safe observation method for cardiac stand-still before pacemaker implantation, reliable tachycardia control and defibrillation methods.
