An investigation on the electrical properties of two kinds of polyparabanic acid derivative (PPA-M and PPA-TM) film was carried out. The dc conductions of both films at temperature range of 290K to 490K were examined. It was found that both polymers had a very high electrical resistance, more than 10^<19> ohm・cm at room temperature. The charge carriers in the polymers were considered to be impurity ions. The dielectric behaviors at frequencies of 20 Hz to 10^5 Hz in the temperature range of 290K to 520K were determind. Both polymers showed very small dielectric losses, less than 0.04 at temperatures below 520K due to their rigid structure. The dielectric constants of two polymers were about 3.0 and changed a little with the changes of temperature and frequency. Both polymers exhibited a relatively small dielectric relaxation which can be ascribed to the movement of the dipole momnet on a parabanic acid residue due to local segmental oscillational motions of the rigid skeletal chains. The dielectric absorption peak of PPA-M appeared at lower temperature or higher frequency region compared with that of PPA-TM.
