Flow in a duct of constant cross section when heat is added to the flow has been investigated numerically, taking pressure waves generated by unsteady heat addition into consideration. The calculation is carried out, assuming that heat is added at a fixed location of the duct stepwisely and the pressure wave generated by heat addition is an adiabatic normal shock. The calculated results are compared with those of a Rayleigh flow where heat is added steadily, and the effect of unsteadiness of heat addition on the flow properties has been clarified.
