Though there are many treatment methods of myopia, these methods cause side effects. We propose a new visual acuity test with Purkinje-Sanson (PS) images as the first step of the development of an invasive self-treatment method. The purpose of the present study is evaluate visual acuity by the distance between PS images. Fourteen patients (12 myopic and 2 emmetropic) were examined for visual acuity, refractive power and PS images. Visual acuity and refractive power were measured with Landoltis rings and a NIDEK AR-600A autorefractometer, respectively. PS images took a photograph with CCD camera. And the distance between PS1 and PS3 images were calculated. We found high correlation between the PS images distance and refractive power (r = -0.801) and cylinder power had no effect on the PS images distance. These results raise the possibility of a new visual acuity teat with PS images.
