In this report, we propose to solve the layout design and the mechanical design in a new concurrent GA -based method. In our system these both design phases are embedded in the general GA-framework. They are implemented by the means of a penalty procedure, applied at the moment of evaluation of the initial design solution. The system components of layout design and mechanical design run concurrently and influence each other by mutual exchange of genetic material at the moment of the solution evaluation. An experimental application in the case of Resin-Injection Molding Machine design was accomplished, showing encouraging results.
