Rolling contact fatigue behavior in AISI M50 steel was investigated using a thrust type testing under the following conditions: shaft speed of 8750 rpm, constant loading (maximum Herts stress of 476 kgf/mm\^2^) and fluctuating loading (maximum Herts stress was alternated between 434 kg/mm2 and 518 kg/mm\^2^), and testing temperatures of 50 \C\ and 150 \C\. The linear Weibull distribution of fatigue life was obtained at 50 \C\, while the complex Weibull distribution was obtained at 150 \C\ under both constant loading and fluctuating loading conditions. Although the shape of the life distribution under constant loading conditions at 50 \C\ was quite different from that under fluctuating loading conditions at same temperature, the mean fatigue life was identical under both conditions. The mean fatigue life at 150 \C\ was greater than that at 50 \C\. These results were analyzed by measuring the track surface appearance change during the testing. Scanning electron microscopy of flaking on the rolling surface and of a cross section revealed that the flaking was initiated at plate-like carbide developed during cyclic stressing in rolling consact.
